A beach house rental vacation in San Diego offers a wonderful sense of freedom sometimes missing from a hotel vacation; freedom to do what you want, when you want to. So why has the area become so popular? The popularity, in part, is because of the wide range of things to see and do while in the area. You really will find things to see and do which will suit the whole family, from the ones who want to be active and doing something, to the ones who simply want to while away the hours on some of the best sandy beaches in the States.
It really doesn’t matter which time of the year you book your beach house rental in San Diego, because the activities just keep on going, month after month. You will also find that many resorts will have special programs to keep children of all ages amused. Some of these will be ideal if you simply need to have a little time away from the kids yourself. After all, being a parent can be hard work, right? You’ve probably worked long and hard to be able to afford a San Diego beach house rental vacation and it would only be fair if you could enjoy being able to kick back and relax without worrying about what the kids might be getting up to. Just check with your resort whether they have something on offer to suit your children.
Because there is so much to see and do in San Diego, it can help if you have some sort of idea of the kind of things you would like to see, before you get there. As much as chilling out and enjoying your vacation in your San Diego beach house rental is great, a little forward planning never hurt anyone, so here are some ideas for those fabulous days out when you have had enough of sun-bathing and want to see more of the area.
SeaWorld is an attraction that has become well-known all over the world, and the one in San Diego is set in a massive 189-acre park. While there you will be able to see many shows as well as amazing attractions and a huge range of exhibits featuring marine life from around the world. Your kids will be fascinated by shows containing killer and pilot whales and beautiful bottlenose dolphins, as well as seals and otters. Some of our favorite exhibits would have to include Penguin Encounter, Sea Turtle Bay, Wild Arctic, and the amazing Shark Encounter. You can pet dolphins, visit Sesame Street Bay of Play, have a wild and thrilling ride on the Journey to Atlantis, and even see San Diego from a bird’s eye point of view if you go on the Mission Bay Skyride.
Or something maybe more suited to the boys, (both big and small!) is the USS Midway Museum. This decommissioned aircraft carrier turned museum pays tribute to the many thousands who served their country on board the ship and celebrates San Diego’s military history. This aircraft carrier has been withdrawn from service and now occupies a spot along San Diego Bay featuring interactive exhibits and over 25 aircraft displays. Many of the guides are veterans who served on the ship and they relish story-telling to bring the history alive.
After such a great morning maybe you could go back to your San Diego beach house rental for some lunch and chill out time, before heading off out to another of the many attractions all within short distance, such as Birch Aquarium or Balboa Park. Birch Aquarium is a dazzling La Jolla landmark which always seems to attract visitors from all age groups. Your kids will love the “touch and learn” exhibits, and will adore the whimsical seahorses and be wowed by the sharks. The aquarium has an Explorers Gallery which features science displays with interactive features and you will be pleased to know that it is open daily except for major holidays.
Balboa Park has a huge number of cultural institutions, including 15 of San Diego’s largest museums. These are fascinating to visit and cover a wide range of interests, such as art and photography, science and space. There are also eight gardens, the San Diego Zoo and acclaimed performing art houses.
And if you would like to plan some events in advance, it helps to check out the San Diego Calendar of Events, where you can narrow down your search into areas of your specific interest, or by region which means that you can plan on visiting events which are near to your San Diego beach house rental if you have no transport. And when you’ve had a fabulous day out, you might either just want a quiet meal somewhere, or alternatively have an abundance of energy left and wish to experience the nightlife. Around the Mission and Pacific Beach areas there is an abundance of differing styles of cuisine to choose from. Obviously fish and sea food will always be popular choices as the area is so close to the ocean, but it is also possible to choose Mediterranean style foods at various beach-front restaurants.
