You can pet dolphins, visit Sesame Street Bay of Play, have a wild and thrilling ride on the Journey to Atlantis, and even see San Diego from a bird’s eye point of view if you go on the Mission Bay Skyride.
Or something maybe more suited to the boys, (both big and small!) is the USS Midway Museum. This decommissioned aircraft carrier turned museum pays tribute to the many thousands who served their country on board the ship and celebrates San Diego’s military history. This aircraft carrier has been withdrawn from service and now occupies a spot along San Diego Bay featuring interactive exhibits and over 25 aircraft displays. Many of the guides are veterans who served on the ship and they relish story-telling to bring the history alive.
After such a great morning maybe you could go back to your San Diego beach house rental for some lunch and chill out time, before heading off out to another of the many attractions all within short distance, such as Birch Aquarium or Balboa Park. Birch Aquarium is a dazzling La Jolla landmark which always seems to attract visitors from all age groups. The aquarium has an Explorers Gallery which features science displays with interactive features and you will be pleased to know that it is open daily except for major holidays.
Balboa Park has a huge number of cultural institutions, including 15 of San Diego’s largest museums. There are also eight gardens, the San Diego Zoo and acclaimed performing art houses.
